White Boy - Sagittarius Bumper.Sticker

Another donation from Bruce Rhodes and another one I have never heard of. This is 'White Boy's' debut single 'Sagittarius Bumper Sticker'. White Boy were from Washington DC and consisted of Mr Ott and Jake Whipp (rumored to be father and son group, does anyone know?) and was touted as the second punk record to come out of Washington. This single had multiple printings, but this one is the first print and was limited to only a 1000 copies.

This is one of Bruce's favorites from 1977, and I wasn't sure at first, but after a couple of plays it has started to grow on me. The a-side 'Sagittarius Bumper Sticker' is the stand out track. The b-side 'I Could Puke' made me laugh out loud at the ridiculous lyrics, and you know what this one is beginning to grow on me even more as I'm playing it now. This single had multiple releases, and if you follow this link you can see some of the less than complimentary reviews of their music. The Third track 'Disco Elephant' is only a few seconds long and has been left on the end of 'I Could Puke' so keep listening, although theres not much to talk about actually.

White Boy - Spastics EP

Thanks to Bruce Rhodes (again) here is White Boy's second release, a 4 track EP.

I've only had the chance to play this once, as per their first single this band is certainly "off the wall". First up is "I'm so Straight", well what can you say when you have a lines like

"See my blue suit I'm dressed up formal"
"and everybody knows I'm perfectly normal "
"I hope you don't think this is rock n roll you see"
"I'm a classical band and you are an ass hole"

But in some weird way I like this (don't ask me why). "Electronic Suicide" sounds like a demented "White Stripes". Next up is "Little Idiots" sounds like a demented "Suicide". Last up is "Just an Old Fart", mmmm, it just sounds demented. Have a listen and tell ASFM what you think of White Boy and their Spastics EP.

White Boy - Poker Chips

Another White Boy song from the Bruce Rhodes collection. This time it's their fifth single "Poker Chips". Another catchy song, with some good guitar riffs and the usual strange lyrics and vocals, that somehow work for me. If you follow this link and scroll down you will see a review where they have called this song "a turd", I have to say I do not agree with them at all. The b-side "How safe are you" is Bruce's fave, but for me, I prefer the strange "Poker Chips".

White Boy - Kissing At Midnight 12" EP

This one is 'White Boys' fourth release again donated by Bruce Rhodes, (only one more to go, Bruce is still trying to obtain their third release) if you have checked out the other 'White Boy' posts (check out the labels side bar) you would know this is a strange band, and this is clearly not one of their best, and its not just me saying that, check out the review below:

"Damn, this is awful. Really awful. Living in Shadows is a terrible eighties rock song that's about twenty minutes long and doesn't even have a fucking ending. Be the First One is a dreadful new wave dance song. Kissing at Midnight is an awful dance song with fake drums, synth, doubled vocals and jerk off funk guitar. Coming Back Home is only 30 seconds long, but it has the most retarded harmonica part ever. Summary: Awful, awful, terrible, dreadful, awful, retarded"

White Boy - Never Mind 7"

Well Bruce Rhodes has finally completed his "White Boy" collection and (yet again) has kindly shared their third single, so we can all get to hear the full range of all five singles (all available here thanks to Bruce).

What I like about White Boy is you never know what your going to get, their music ranges from absurd to great. This one is a more of a return to their rock sound from their first single but more heavy than anything else they have released. Bruce rates the a-side "Never Mind" and surprisingly so do I (I'm not normally so keen on the more heavy sound).
