Vermilion - Angry Young Women

OK, thanks to everyone who left comments on the last post. I'm gonna give it a go again, but a lot slower now.

So here you go with Vermilion's debut single, a three track ep on Illegal Records. Vermilion was a writer for "Search and Destroy" magazine and later "Ripped and Torn" reporting on the punk and new wave scene. If you look at the back cover (hi res scan for you to see better) she looks more like a biker chick especially sitting on a Triumph Bonneville. I was originally not to keen on these tracks but they grew on me over time, so its good to dig them out of the loft and get them onto digital format so I can play them again.

My stand out track for me is "Wild Boys (Ride their bikes)", but with a chorus from "Nymphomania" - "I can't Stop F*cking around" it's hard to choose. So after all this time you must have something to say so try it out and leave a comment and tell us what you think of Vermilion.

Band: Vermilion
Label: Illegal Records
Year: 1978
Tracks:
1. Angry Young Women
2. Nymphomania
3. Wild Boys (Ride Their Bikes)

Ripped from glorious scratched vinyl:

Hi Gary,

Great to hear from ya!Hope all's well?
Vermilion.... always liked this, (I think it's that trashy N.Y./ street punk style I like. Always got into that "who gives a toss" attitude in music!).
As your gonna take it a bit easier, I don't know if your gonna want me to send ya stuff?
Let me know. Just picked up a copy of White Boy's 3rd 45.Haven't heard it yet though.
All the best.... Brue.

Good to have you back! Or still here, at least...

I always wondered who the hell Vermillion was - her name was all over the place and and I remember seeing pictures of her with Lemmy and the like, invariably flashing her knockers, but I couldn't never quite figure out what she actually did! And now, thanks to this and a spot of googling, I know. Wonder what on earth she's doing these days?

Hi John, thanks for the comment. I'd be curious to know what she is up to now as well.

Does anyone know?

Hi Gary,
Just found out that there was a second Vermilion release on Illegal in '79.

"The Letter/I Like Motorycle's". I found a download for both songs, but they aien't too good.

The backing band are Menace minus their singer, under the guise of the Aces.

Looked for a copy of the 45, but no luck. If you want the MP3's let us know.

Hi! Good to have you back. Been missing your posts! I 've read in the comments that Bruce has the 3rd White Boy single, and I'd really like to hear that, as it's described at their best by the "30 under DC" website (www.30underdc.com/discogs/), which has a bit of info on the Doodley Squat releases. There's also a recent interview with Jake Whipp on www.brightestyoungthings.com/music.

Hi Gary. Yes indeed is great to see you back. Never heard this one before and I like it alot. The music on the first 2 tracks actually reminds me of The Ramones for some reason. Is it just me?

Hey Marcelo, thanks for the comment, shame Bruce R wasn't the man you were looking for, but our Bruce R is still good in my books, look at all those great songs he has shared.

Gary,

glad you are keeping it going after all. I've slowed down on my posts too, but it's still nice to pull out some goodies and have a ripping/listening good time!
I bought this record at an Amsterdam flea market years ago, but it never quite hit the spot. Perhaps I'll give it another go. Great cover tho', ha, ha!
Cheers!

Hi Hdvns, yep its a but more relaxed now, I don't know why I put the pressure on myself to keep posting daily, i think it became a habit.

ps. I always liked the cover, can't think why

I have this single, and I really wanted to listen to it again, but it's in a box at my mother's house ( a few thousand miles away).
Anyway, I actually couldn't remember her name and tried to search via labels to no avail. It's funny to me that of all the 7"s to post, this one pops up. I must've willed it to happen. Anyway, thanks!

Simon No Mates said...

Oh, and it's funny that Menace backed her. Excellent!
