The Curse - Shoeshine Boys

Yet another gem (does he have anything other than gems?) from the Bruce Rhodes collection. This time an all girl band from Toronto Canada named "The Curse".

Sunshine Boys/Killer Bees is their one and only single released on Hi-Fi records, , although they did produce some other material on a compilation album and also a split single with "the Diodes"

The band consists of Mickey Skin on vocals, Trixie Danger on guitar,
Dr Bourque on Bass and Patzy Poizon on drums. I'm not sure whose who in the picture, does anyone know?

I love both of these songs with "Killer Bees" edging it for me (Bruce also thinks "Killer Bees" is the killer track - excuse the pun). So give it a try and see what you think. As usual leave a comment and leave your thanks with Bruce for sharing another punk classic.

Band: Curse
Label: Hi-Fi
Year: 1978
Tracks:
1. Shoeshine Boy
2. Killer Bees

Ripped from Bruce's glorious scratched vinyl, see comment for link.

I remember this band. I saw them live a couple of times.

Listen to the lyrics on Shoeshine Boy, they tell the true story of the tragic killing of 12-year old Emanuel Jaques. A rape murder ( He abducted and repeatedly sexually assaulted over a period of twelve hours by 3 men before being strangled and drowned in a kitchen sink) that essentially took the innoncence out of Toronto.

Thanks for the comment and the link Mug. I hadn't listened to the lyrics, a very sad story.

The were called The Curse I think, not Curse. I never saw them myself, but knew people from the same high school scene. I am pretty sure they re-released a bunch of stuff on CD about 8-10 years ago. I will dig around in my basement and see if I can find it. If I do I will share.

The kid had actually been in the apartment previously - he was not your average shoe-shine boy. Certain 'mitigating circumstances 'where never entered into the court record. The sister maintained he was 'just' a shoe-shine boy. She left back for the Azores - with her family reputation intact. The song hints at this visa vis. a hundred dollars a day .. you don't make that kinda coin shining shoes (even 25 years on). He was shining something else.

Hi anon, thanks for the extra info. Shining something else! I guess that's one way of putting it.
