Spizzenergi - The Custard Channel

This appears to be a bit of a rare one, and it's a real mixed bag if your looking for classic Spizz stuff. Under the name of Spizzenergi (1996-1998 incarnation), it also includes the "Lifestyle project" which was originally released as an EP with tracks from Claudia Brucken (front lady to Synthpop band Propaganda) and Spizz, three tracks from Spizzvision (1989), one from Spizzenergi 3 (1991) and three already released tracks from Athletic Spizz 80.

The Custard Channel is a worth having just for three re-recordings in 1996 for GLR sessions of the classic Spizz singles Central Park, Where's Captain Kirk? and No Room, and the cover of Kraftwerks classic "The Model".

The Lifestyle project and Spizz vision stuff really moves away from the sound you'd normally expect to hear from Spizz (more commercial in my opinion), plus two football songs, one for England the Spizzenergi 1998 world cup song "E for England" (unofficial I'm sure) plus his homage to Aston Villa.

The stand out tracks for me is the new version of "Where's Captain Kirk?", faithful but just different enough to want to hear both and their excellent cover of "The Model". What do you think? Leave a comment and let us know.

As usual high resolution scans included so you can read the details

Thanks so much for sharing the Spizz material, one of the most criminally under-rated bands in musical history, period...you could play somebody "Do A Runner", tell them it was released this week and they would not bat an eyelid...to be honest I think it was too far ahead of its time (if such a thing is possible!) in the sense very few people at the time really "got it". Luckily I was one of them! I was 12 when it came out and the main reason I bought it was because it was 50p and I liked the cover (Woolworths was great, I bought the Delta 5 album and Magazine's Correct Use of Soap in the same year, all for fifty pence each! and while its not very hip to admit, I credit Woolies with my eclectic taste to this day!)
PS, if anyone is interested I found okish rips of Do A Runner and The Spizzles album at the Punk Vinyl blog:

Spizzles:

Only just found your blog and already it feels like home! Thanks so much for the Spizz Custard! Its the perfect topping!(Groan!!)

Hi Sambson, I can defo help in two areas:

I have Hot Deserts, but you will have to give me some time to find it, rip it and post it. I am v busy at the moment but will put it on my list of to do's (I already have a quueue of requests).

You can get Spizzles, Risk over at Punkfriction here:

I'm also in discussions with someone over getting a rip of Spizz Orbit so keep your fingers crossed. (I may put out a request sometime, its been a while since I've done one).

I also have a copy of spizzenrgi unhinged, which I'm not sure wheter you have or not.

All the best
