The Satellites - Urbane Gorilla

Don't know much about this one except I love the a-side Urbane Gorilla. It's fast and furious, and I don't know what the hell their singing about, as I can't understand the lyrics, but that doesn't stop me singing along to the chorus:

Urbane Gorilla he's gonna get you
eeya eeya waki waki

Don't know what that means, but I don't care, its brilliant. The b-side is OK, but not a patch on the a-side.

Band: The Satellites
Label: Rewind Records
Year: 1980
Tracks:
1. Urbane Gorilla
2. High Rise Hillbillys

As the cover show Rat Scabies from the Damned produced it. Anyone know anything else?

Ripped from glorious scratched vinyl:

Glad to help Longy.

I think your right Nuzz. its funny how many singles people have singles without picture covers, do you think someone took them or were they planned as limited editions. I have a number of singles without the picture sleeve.

Man, out of that list I think the only one I have anything by is Masterswitch (which I was planning to post). I haven't heard of any of the others

Saw them live loads of times. Used to play a lot in West London with bands like London Pride, Whirlwind & The Ruts. Don't really like the single much, they were a lot better live.
Other songs of theirs included 'I Fell In Love With A Lesbian', 'Windscale Boy', 'Lucy Is A Prostitute' & 'West Action Shakedown'.
Del & John from the band are pictured down Portobello Rd on the cover of the Phonogram compilation album 'New Wave'.

Hi Luggy, thanks for your comment. Do you have any of their other stuff?

I also saw them a few times, but my memory is a little lacking and I can hardly remember anything other than seeing them.

I have the new wave compilation album and was thinking of posting it.

All the best, gary

Hi Gary
Used to have a live tape of them but is now unfortunately long gone. Would love to hear their old set again especially before they added the keyboards.

Hi Luggy, it was worth a shot, I wish i had looked after all the old tapes I used to have, I had some excellent bootlegs which I have never found on the web. Maybe someone out there has some of their material.

Anyone???

Turn the hoover up mum, I'm on drugs!

The Satellite were my childhood. Acton's finest band. They rocked the Clarendon most weeks & the assembled degenerates loved them.

There is only one thing left to say:

EEYORE IN THE UK!

However, I do have three vinyl 7" singles. They are:

Urbane Gorilla, on Rewind records (Rewind 2). This was '...a porky prime cut', date unknown - prob. 1980.
Vietnam, on Brickyard records (EOR 1), 1983.
Nightmare, on Kamera records (ERA 016), 1983.

There was also an album but I lost it years ago. Email me & I'll send some cover shots.

I actually got The Satellites LP today. 'Here is Today's News'. If anyone knows some way of getting the LP to mp3 format where I don't have to buy a fancy digital record player for $150.00 (I know other ways exist.) Let me know. SethMoreno1977@yahoo.com

Oh, and as soon as I get it on my computer. I'm gettin' it around like crazy. Haha! The Satellites really need to reach the surface!

Hi Seth, well done mate. I sent you an email, see what you think

If you'd like The Satellites LP, I've got it posted on my page. Have a look. And if you decide to download it, do me a favor and tell people about this band, do some reposts of it, anything.
