Automatics - When The Tanks Roll Over Poland Again

Most probably more well known for the (hard to scan) metallic cover. The start of 'When The Tanks Roll Over Poland Again' sounds like a punk classic, excellent riff, bit of shouting, and then it turns into more of a power pop song, which still works for me, and most probably places them into the 'New Wave' genre.

The b-side 'Watch Her Now' takes a few more plays to grab you, but it does in the end.

This was their debut and final single. They did release an album may years later but I have never heard it. Anyone out there know what it's like?

Band: Automatics
Label: Island
Year: 1978
Tracks:
1. When The Tanks Roll Over Poland Again
2. Watch Her Now

Ripped from glorious scratched vinyl:

If you like this then you can get some of the Automatics new stuff and some re-worked old stuff here:

I've just had a look on the old-hd and I have 3 Automatics albums on there. I think the old album is "Walking With The Radio On" Theres also "The Missing Album" and more recently from 2006 "Forty Virgins In The Afterlife" when they reformed. I'm ashamed to say I haven't got round to listening to any of them yet!

Still got When The Tanks on single - great track (Ricky Goldstein later of Sham on drums)

Great A side, but I can see why Island didn't bother with the album.

Hi Matt thanks for your comment, I just wandered over to you blog, what was in the link (its dead now) from 1977? I'm curious now.

Cheers Longy, I have 3 Vertical Hold songs for you, none of the ones you listed. I hope its the right Vertical Hold

Nice one Gary. I think there is more than 1 Vertical Hold though. The only songs other than the ones I mentioned that I know of are 2 songs from the compilation "Another Thing From The Crypt" entitled "Robot Chef" and "Stop Press" and also a song from the "We wont be your f****g poor" comp called "Out on a limb"

There may be more about that I dont know about though!
