The Yobs - Run Rudolph Run / Silent Night

As its nearly Christmas, I thought it's time for a bit of festive spirit, so this posting comes from 'The Boys' alter egos 'The Yobs' who every year released a Christmas cover song . Their debut as 'The Yobs' was 'Run Rudolph Run' released in 1977 on NEM's records which was originally popularized by Chuck Berry. Its actually quite faithful to Chuck Berry's version. On the b-side you get a traditional (I've been told scout camp fire song) song 'The Worm Song' which starts of traditionally and then gets the full Yobs punk treatment, if you haven't heard this one you're love it. When this came out we mimed to it at the Walton Hop Disco (Where Jimmy Pursey and Sham 69 first started), we thought it would be funny to dig up some worms and chuck them into the audience (hilarious eh! well we were only 16/17) but when were about to go on stage we found that all the worms which were in a plastic bag had died and shrivelled up, so we had to use spaghetti instead, which led to us getting a bollocking by the manager because a couple of people insisted on getting their clothes dry cleaned after getting covered in spaghetti.

Second up is the Yobs cover of Silent Night, it starts of with a traditional organ playing, which for the first minute you could play to your mum or your grandparent's and then, the Yobs kick into the full punk cover. The cover and the b-side (a German version of Silent Night, are clearly not PC and have caused offence, so be warned, I used to know the Yobs guitarist John Plain (via the Lurkers) and they never meant to upset anyone but clearly did.
