I don't know where or how Bruce (Rhodes) finds these records but I'm really glad he does. Thanks to his last offering and the comments (follow link if your interested), I am now a massive Androids Of Mu fan (can't believe its taken me 30 years).
This time up we have the excellent Algebra Mothers. They hailed from Detroit and released this gem in 1979 on Aftertaste Records. Bruce sent this one in response to the last Devo post and said "there is a distinct Devo meet David Byrne feel to this one". I can also hear a hint of Stranglers with the keyboard. I love the a-side 'Strawberry Cheesecake' which is clearly the stand out track, but the b-side 'Modern Noise' ain't bad. Woh! Devo, David Byrne and the Stranglers, can anyone hear anything else? leave a comment and tell ASFM.

You know what to do
Really good! I like this kind of american new wave.
cheers Gary
This reminds of something and I can't think what it is......and its bugging the crap out of me. I like it though so thanks Gary (and Bruce)
PS Glad you have finally got into Androids Of Mu now mate :-)
Bruce may have found this one at the KBD blog - they posted it fairly recently.
Alright.... you sussed me out! I did originally come across this on the KBD site and got into it straight away.
I'd never heard of them before and immediately hit Ebay and found a copy. (the guy has more copies with a Buy It Now option for £11 inclusive of postage to the U.K.)
Oh yes the Stranglers feel is in there, but to me my initial thought about the keyboards was of an 80's style garage band trying to get that cool cheesy 60's garage sound ala ? & The Mysterians! which is what attracted me to the single as 60's garage/psych is my first love.
It also slightly reminds me of a cross between two bands called, the Mumps and Skafish!!??
Skafish!! indeed. Disgracing The Family Name received a few favourable reviews. I think I have it lurking around somewhere.
Always wondered what the Mumps sound like. Like this lot apparently though I wouldn't know....how do you get to listen to these posts?
Hi Sarah thanks for comment and glad you enjoyed.
Longy I know what you mean mate, I keep hearing other things as well, but can't quite put my finger on it.
Anon, after reading Bruce's comment looks like you were right. I used to check out all the blogs before I posted but havent got the time now, and at least this got this classic out to a few more people (me included) who missed the KBD posting (I'm sure Peter won't mind either.
Thanks Bruce I will ahev to check out the Mumps, I've not hear anything from them.
Rupert I thought you were joking when you said you couldnt play the stuff I posted. Check out the first comment (made by me) and click three times with the left mouse button, control c and then control v into your browser and bingo the file will magically appear.
EXACTLY! I have felt like this single sounded Devo/Byrne-esque since I first listened. So happy to be affirmed!
Thanks anon, it is a nice feeling when you beleive something and someone else mirrors it.
The one time I hung out with Destroy All Monsters, this record was the band's in-joke. Good, though!
Did Destroy all Monsters not like it, surely not.
I just listed this Algebra Mothers single, plus the Androids of Mu LP, today on eBay, along with a ton more DIY punk and post-punk vinyl:

these auctions end on Tuesday Nov 3rd.
