The Buzzcocks - Sprial Scratch EP

Now, its time for a few punk legend singles. First up the classic Buzzcocks Spiral Scratch EP.

Most people should have this, but just in case here it is, just for you.

Howard Devoto on Vocals, I will post some of his classic Magazine material later on.

My favorite is definitely "Boredom" which typified punk attitude in the late seventies. If you listen to some of the excellent Buzzcock bootlegs, you can here Pete Shelly (after Devoto left) introducing Boredom with "this is a song about being bored, its called boredom 1234 (in a really slow and out of pace style) which always makes me smile. If you haven't heard this then put a a comment and I will post a classic Buzzcocks bootleg.

Although Boredom is excellent, "Times Up" and "Breakdown" are a close second.

See what you think.

A little more etching trivia, the vinyl singles has two etchings one on each side, side a has "Eat The Beat" and side b has "Pulse out". Not sure what they mean but their first excelent album "Another Music In A Different Kitchen" had one track called "Moving Away From The Pulsebeat" - could be a link.

Band: The Buzzcocks
Label: A New Hormones Product
Year: 1977
Tracks:
1. Breakdown
2. Times Up
3. Boredom
4. Friends Of Mine

So ripped from a limited edition CD version (my vinyl is just too scratched

If you like this then I recommend you do buy the Buzzcocks first album linked below, even though Devoto is not singing on it:

The Buzzcocks - Orgasm Addict

This is the Buzzcocks first single with Pete Shelly taking over vocals. Shelly managed to blend punk and power pop into classic singles . With all of their first ten singles (not a bad run) the b-sides were also brilliant.

I know most of you will have this but I had to post it just for the legendary cover. So please forgive me.

Band: The Buzzcocks
Label: United Artists
Year: 1977
Tracks:
1. Orgasm Addict
2. Whatever Happened To?

Ripped from glorious scratched vinyl:

I can't believe you haven't got this already , but if you haven't go out and get it now all the Buzzcocks first ten singles and b-sides:

The Buzzcocks - Promises

Was this the first punk rock record using a sample from another track?

I can't think of any before, can you?

I posted this because of the excellent track 'Lipstick' which samples the guitar riff from an earlier posting by Magazine 'Shot By Both Sides' so what could be better merging two of my favorite bands 'Magazine' and 'The Buzzcocks'. To make things even better 'Promises' is also an excellent track (I guess thats why one side is A and the other 1), but then all of their first ten singles (including b-sides are brilliant).

Band: The Buzzcocks
Label: United Artists
Year: 1978
Tracks
1. Promises
2. Lipstick

If you like this, then go and buy this, this single is on it, plus many other classics:

The Roxy London WC2: Jan- Apr 1977

One of the great punk classic live albums of all time. The recording is raw and very real, you can hear everyone standing around chatting, and banter between the audience and the bands. You could easily mistake this for a bootleg. For the first time on ASFM we have Eater and X-Ray Spex with the classic 'Oh Bondage Up Yours', but for me the its toss up between Wire and Johnny Moped, and even though I'm a massive Johnny Moped fan, 'Lowdown' by Wire just about wins. I love the way the song just stops, goes quiet and then "Thats the lowdown", Brilliant. Then followed by the classic '12XU', what more could you want.

So come on then, whats your favourite track? Leave a comment and let everyone know.

Ripped from a not so glorious hissing tape:
